I remember Carlin in the early days, the "7 Dirty Words" days. Loved listening to him. Got a little older, late 20s, I guess, and wished he could clean up the language just a bit so he could reach a wider audience -- he was quite a philosopher and his ideas were worth listening to. The humor came from his delivery, but more so from his well founded observations of our world. I was happy he wrote as I could take him anywhere in print.

Agree but underrated aspect of Carlin's is how much he practices his material and timing. He was great at language which you can see in his writing
