I believe the main reason the Mets v Braves games were played early is due to the fact that the teams had to travel and play the next day. The Braves played a double header and then flew to San Diego. The Mets only had to go to Milwaukee. They were also regular season games - not playoffs.

The Mets won the first game so secured their playoff spot and if they won the second game the Braves would have been eliminated. So in effect a playoff game too.

You may be right with the travel considerations though.

Didn't cross my mind till now, but cruise ships would seem to employ a lot of dock workers. What's up there? no one mentions it.

Many cruise ships leave out of East Coast ports with the most coming from Miami. I'd look for many of them to depart from the Bahamas or Mexico now. Many of the northern ports won't be too badly effected because they are mostly summer cruises.

The strike will be bad for Miami's economy.
