I like the idea of small form nuclear power plants for military installations. Build 50 of those and the states would then be able to afford building several in every major city. Too bad the “Greens” wouldn’t support it…
Think the military is exempt from any Nuclear Regulatory rules - that's why you can have nuke powered aircraft carriers and subs. Only thing preventing them would be evacuation plans and here politics could rear its ugly head. But why should a base stay where it's not wanted. Sure many states welcome the bases (and the jobs).
Also any excess power can be returned for a profit that can drive down the cost of the base and make living nearby by even more attractive.
