I request my library books online. I get an email confirmation when I can go pick them up. Super easy. I can also get kindle books through the library. The only downside is that they are only active for 2 weeks at a time.

Also in you live in MA you can get a library card to the Boston Public Library which gives him access to all sort of things like guest passes to all these museums. I used to use a library card to the Library of Congress and thought it was cool. It also used to count as a federal ID.
