Re the GRAS list: I'm confused. First I had to look up the acronym; it means "generally recognized as safe." So, haven't we been testing and evaluating these additives for decades? If not, how the hell did they get to be "generally recognized"? And what makes you think the Europeans are better at recognizing potential hazards than we are? Remember the Thalidomide disaster? That suggests otherwise.
Everything the FDA has to cancel as dangerous they once approved. Big Pharma pays a lot of money to get things approved until those ingredients cause lots of deformities or deaths (and those lawsuits that accompany them). People keep saying about how the food in Europe is so much better - perhaps the ingredients are the reason.
