So when do we start seeing the trial balloons about replacing Kamala Harris with Oprah? Guessing shortly after the Super Bowl. VP Oprah is sworn in and shortly after that Joe Biden steps down just before that 2022 elections. President Oprah then saves the Democratic Party. Stranger things have happened... Historical nugget that may only interest me: when the fighting broke out in the Civil War only one member of the Harvard faculty enlisted to fight - he was a German émigré. They probably talked a good game though... Just an observations but of all the things Donald Trump did as President it is interesting to note that you don't hear anyone complaining about the reworked NAFTA agreements he negotiated with Canada and Mexico. Guessing the Donald must have gotten those agreements right... Radicalized by Events would be a good name for a blog... To paraphrase Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The word liberty in the mouth of Mr. Biden sounds like the word love in the mouth of a courtesan"... Secondhand Alcohol would be among the worst names possible for a bottled water brand... At this point we should just rename the National Debt as Crescit Eundo - which is Latin for "it grows as it goes" because that certainly aptly describes our National Debt... Think the time would be ripe for a re-make of 1976's The Front but this time instead of the nebbish Woody Allen acting as a front for blacklisted screenwriters who had some connection to the Communist party you would have a woman of color acting as a front for screenwriters somehow connected to the Republican Party. The comedy almost writes itself... Much has been made over Aaron Rodgers being the second QB taken in the 2005 NFL Draft after Alex Smith went 1st overall to the 49ers (which was the team Rodgers grew up rooting for). However, not enough has been made about Washington, which selected one pick after Green Bay, not trading to move up in the draft. With the pick after the Packers Washington selected QB Jason Campbell. Can you imagine how the NFL may have been so much different if Washington did move up to select Rodgers instead of settling for Campbell? Washington's biggest need at the time was at QB with 35-year old Mark Brunell as their starter... I believe Massachusetts is the only state where an individual can be committed to a program/hospital against their will over alcohol or drug abuse. Wonder if that policy (along with the cold weather) is a major reason why Boston doesn't have the same type of homeless problem as San Francisco? The politics in both cities are equally “progressive”... Have a feeling Tom Brady will be back next season. He once said he'd retire when he started to "suck" as a player. He's nowhere close to sucking but there's also no need for him to squash any talk of his retirement. Let people speculate - its good for the TB12 brand. One wildcard to this thought though - if Rob Gronkowski announces his retirement (again) I think Brady follows suit... One of the industries hardest hit by COVD are companies that make tchotchke's for trade shows. Have the feeling that trade show tchotchke's have gone the way of the pony express... What a great weekend of football! I feel awful for Buffalo fans - what a gut punch way to lose… As always if this column has made you smile or think - don't be afraid to hit the like button. I'll believe Brady is retired when week one kicks off without him. However, his comments yesterday about family gives me a little less confidence that he will be back. His talk about more time with family could push him into retirement. It isn't just the games or the practices, it is the amount of physical preparation to stay in game shape. At 20, I could run five miles without even bothering to stretch. By the time I was 45, I had to do various stretches for bowling. I'd hate to think the amount of time older athletes spend working out and getting worked on in order to compete with guys just out of college.
