Don't know if you're old enough to remember, but we tried that once before, in the 70s (during the original oil crisis, I think). One result was that in the winter kids were walking to school in the dark due to the later sunrise.
Jake - don't remember that but my understanding is that most school kids take a bus to school these days and the early start of many schools is to accommodate the bus schedules. More people should home school (for various reasons) and communities should go back to neighborhood schools instead of mega magnet schools.
Also those kids for who walking to school in the dark was a problem are walking home in the dark. What's the big difference?
