Sure you can make that argument for Tracking as prime knowledge, but the same primacy could be ascribed to gathering - these berries good, these mushrooms bad - it's interesting but completely speculative and unprovable.
That's just the thing - I've seen gathering leading to farming being ascribed to the beginning of civilization. This was the first time hunting/tracking and the skills passed down was put into my head as perhaps the start of a knowledge based community
