Is it me or is the simple Occam's Razor solution to helping make sure hospital beds aren't overwhelmed by the pandemic is to create more hospital beds? But I'm guessing that sort of common sense infrastructure isn't part of Congress' trillion dollar Infrastructure Bill. Seriously have you heard any politician speak about creating more hospital beds? Seems much more reasonable solution than firing unvaccinated healthcare workers... Hilarious to me that "Let's go Brandon!" has become an actual chant. Hilarious... Reportedly the NBA and the NBPA have agreed in principal to a reduction in pay of 1/91.6th a player's salary for each game they miss in their home market because of local vaccination requirement laws. Kyrie Irving seems to be the poster boy for this "agreement" and supposedly he'd lose $381,000 per missed home game at NYC's Barclays Center. This opens up so many questions... Urban Irish would be a good name for a band, a sports bar or a line of T-shirts and hats... Lloyd's of London is known as the company that would insure anything from Clipper ships in the 18th and 19th centuries to the legs of a prima ballerina. I have to wonder if they would be willing to insure an individual against getting adverse effects from a COVID vaccine and if so how much would it cost?... The great William Shatner, former star of TV's TJ Hooker, is going to space thanks to Jeff Bezos and Blue Origin. Wonder if Shatner will have time while weightless to do an encore of Rocket Man... In the United States you would think ALFAC would be the logical company to come out with supplemental insurance against adverse vaccine reactions. There's literally millions of potential customers. The fact that they haven't done so makes me wonder if their actuarial tables say it would be too risky a gamble. Shouldn't that be a red flag? And if by chance AFLAC has come out with such a policy - wouldn't the fact that they are not publicizing it be another red flag?... Even if an adverse reaction to the vaccine insurance policy were to have a $1 million premium and were to cover just lost income it would make sense for a Kyrie Irving and other professional athletes who are hesitant to get the vaccine to buy the policy. For Kyrie Irving that would be just 3 potential missed game checks. Again with a potential revenue stream this great why wouldn't an AFLAC or Lloyd's of London issue such a policy? Another red flag?... We can argue if a flight on a Blue Origin rocket actually counts as traveling to space another time... Perhaps the best thing about this upcoming NFL weekend is no more Brady vs Belichick hype-fatigue... I can recall just a short time ago when historically it was widely accepted the FDR's two biggest sins as President were his internment of Japanese Americans and his attempt to pack the Supreme Court. Now packing the Supreme Court is an open strategy of many "progressive" Democrats and we're getting to the point the some may start openly talking about the internment of unvaccinated Americans. Scary stuff... Would a Kyrie Irving for Ben Simmons straight-up swap work? Could Brooklyn agree to sit Simmons when the 76ers visit as part of the deal? So many questions... Thanks for reading my first offering here at Substack. The plan is to do Flotsam and Jetsam on Friday’s and one or more longer essays during the week. Please subscribe. Thanks again…

How does the federal government "create" more hospital beds? Apart from military facilities, they don't run hospitals, do they? SFAIK most hospitals are private, university-affiliated, or run by local municipalities. Surely you don't want the feds taking over yet more state, local, and/or private functions! I would say the best way to achieve your goal would be to create, via legislation, a friendlier business environment for for-profit hospitals and clinics. A capitalist solution, in other words. With a lot less regulation and red tape. I know, I know -- in my dreams . . .
Why would Brooklyn want him? Simmons is a selfish, petulant, mess. Plenty of other big men are out there for much less cap space who will not stretch the floor, play soft defense, and pass up easy shots.
