Have to wonder how the higher ups at PBS are feeling about NPR this morning... Jack Edwards announces his retirement at the end of the Bruins season... It has been said by many but the public that has been forced to read in school often finds themselves not reading at all once they get out of school. These people are often more prone to fall for demagogues and scams. All the more reason to get people to read what they like until they like to read when they are young instead of trying to force them to read... Raymond Chandler's second book, The High Window, did not sell very well. Some blame the outbreak of World War II but I wonder if the book he originally wrote but threw away because it wasn't up to his standards may have actually been better. As an aside I never read The High Window... If you think about it Jack Edwards had quite a professional life. He was a local sportscaster for ABC affiliate Channel 5, a skiing announcer for ABC, a SportsCenter host, and the Bruins play-by-play man for 19-years. Good luck in retirement. Hope your health allows you to enjoy it to the fullest… Officers in Comic Opera Uniforms would be a good name for a band... Reminder that once prices go up (whether they be wages or what you pay) those prices never go back down... The Insignificance of Significance would be a good name for a Substack account or a blog about the news... Is it me or does it seem that all the numbers coming from the government are higher than predicted only to later be revised down. Almost every time... Great backhanded compliment is to call someone an amazingly competent drunk or a really competent stoner... People normally fall into either the dog lover or cat lover category. Must admit that the one criticism of dogs that hit home by cat lovers is the large amount of upkeep dogs require. The retort is that they're simply worth it...
