Wednesday Flotsam and Jetsam
Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
Guys know a guy who died a few weeks after he finally reached retirement age. Know a number of people myself who that happened to and I often wonder if it was the job that really sucked the life out of them or was it simply missing the job and their routine?... Charlie Munger has passed aged 99. I think of this quote of his every time Disney, the MCU, or Star Wars is mentioned, "Remember that reputation and integrity are your most valuable assets and can be lost in a heartbeat." Disney has had that heartbeat... If its a football game - girlfriends could have a longer nap... Wonder what the returns would be if you had a hedge fund that just shorted the team season totals of any team owned by David Tepper?... Honest question - when's the last time anyone read Deadspin? It's been years for me and now I'm hoping that young Kansas City Chiefs fan sues them out of existence. Hope I'm not asking for too much... Couples very much in love often die not too far apart. That's what I fear may be the fate for Jimmy Carter now that Roselynn has passed. That's also my fear for Warren Buffet now that Charlie Munger has passed - though its a very different sort of love and Buffett is 7-years young than Munger... Sadly true... Mark Cuban quits Shark Tank on Monday and them sells his interest in the Dallas Mavericks (but remains as the head of basketball operations) on Tuesday. Have seen the speculation that these moves may be because Cuban is looking to run for president of the US or that he knows the NBA may have peaked and is looking to sell at the top. Now I'm curious if either reason could be true? Could it also be for health related issues?... My attitude is that AI could be a force for good unless the West willingly puts the brakes on our development. China's not slowing down theirs and they view AI as the one way they could catch and pass the US. We need to keep our smart people smarter than theirs - and more free!... Speaking of Disney... Honest question: would you say Bob Newhart (who just turned 94) is our greatest living comedian? Or Dave Chapelle? Wonder what Chapelle would say?...
