I've been around for decades and the only sitting President I've seen not actively campaign for re-election was Jimmy Carter when I was a kid. We all know how that turned out... If you tried to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark, which came out 42-years ago this week, you'd find it an unwatchable, cliche ridden, racist piece of crap. I watched so you don't have to. You can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be skipping the next Indiana Jones installment... OK I'll say it! Riley Gaines is hot. Don't care what you call me. I'd eat her like a cheese cracker... Everyone I know on Meta or Facebook knows its bad for them yet they're still on. I just don't get it and I would never act that way... Here's hoping that Serbian 7-footer Tristan Vukcevic is still around when the Boston Celtics pick in the upcoming draft or that they trade up to get him. He could be the Celtics' Nikola Jokic. From my lips to God's ears... Today's word of the day is "callipygian" - "having well shaped buttocks" from the Ancient Greek. HT to Tim Ferriss. Wonder if there's an Anacient Greek word meaning "having no buttocks?" That would apply to me... Dr. Peter Hotez is lucky he's in Texas and the rest of the nation is lucky Texas exists... One of my favorite statistics - NBA Finals average Nikola Jokic 30 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. Giannis NBA Finals average 35 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Joel Embid NBA Finals average - 0 points, 0 rebounds and 0 assists. Don't expect any sportswriter (outside of Philly) to mention his name in the same breathe as Jokic or Giannis for MVP next season... Heh Heh... Love the phrase, “Devil take the hindmost” which technically means that people who lag behind will receive no aid but modern ears would think the Devil has a taste for back legs. Love language like that… As always, if anythng made you think or smile please consider Subscribing (paid if you can afford it), hit the Like button, or share the link with others (on Facebook or Twitter is fine). Re the Indiana Jones franchise I agree that it jumped the shark after "The Last Crusade", but I have to disagree with you about "Raiders". It was certainly "cliche ridden" . . . because it was deliberately created to be an homage to the cheesy 1930s-vintage adventure movies (much as Star Wars was lovingly modeled after the pulp SF of the same era). There's no Deep Message, no logic to the plot (such as it is), and not so much characters as caricatures -- but it's slam-bang action from start to finish, great fun to watch. At least for me.
And "racist"? Huh? Where the hell did that come from? The portrayal of Arabs? One of the most sympathetic characters in the story (Sallah) is an Arab. The only black person I remember is a ship captain. So what exactly is "racist" about the movie?
Anyhow, glad you're back -- stay healthy!
