Northwestern firing head coach Pat Fitzgerald is a point of no return for the university. It is the Chicago equivalent of crossing the Rubicon and like the Roman equivalent - there’s no turning back. Pat Fitzgerald cannot be rehired without the University President and student newspaper being canned… Glad to hear that Ross Dellenger left Sports Illustrated voluntarily but will not be leaving The College Football Enquirer podcast. Sad to say but this is a load off my shoulders... Had the opportunity to re-watch the David Lynch version of 1984's Dune and I must confess - it doesn't hold up very well. Still a fan of the original book and I've yet to see the new movie version though I still plan to... People remember that the Raiders picked kicker Sebastian Janikowski in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft but forget they also picked punter Shane Lechler in the 6th round. Even though Lechler played one less season than Janikowski it can be argued that Lechler had the much better pro career earning 7 Pro Bowl appearances to just 1 for Janikowski. The punter Lechler is also a borderline Hall of Famer... Should be a list of enjoyable nonsense songs. September by Earth, Wind and Fire would top the list. The song basically says we fell in love in September and then a bunch of baby talk... Hedonistic Calculus would be a good name for a college band or a blog or Substack account... Environmental activist Leonardo DiCarprio takes a helicopter from his mega-yacht to dinner. Just saying... So I see that Youth Football is for ages 4-14 but for the life of me I cannot remember playing at 4-years old. Not overly concerned about this though as I can't ever remember learning to swim either - thought I always just knew how to swim just as I always just remember playing Pop Warner tackle football prior to high school... So Friday July 7th was National Dive Bar Day and unfortunately I celebrated the day without knowing about the national holiday... Another update from a past story, Judge Doughty rejects Biden's DOJ request for a stay allowing government censorship to continue as an emergency measure. Good for Judge Doughty... Would be amusing if Xaviar Babudar, aka Chiefsaholic, was roomed in jail with Andy Reid's son. Perhaps I think differently than most... It it wrong that I'm surprised the person who found the cocaine in the White House hasn't been fired by the Biden Administration? Yet?... The NYT announced that as of 7/10 they will no longer be covering sports. Not sure if to make the joke that they haven't been covering sports for a long time or that their slogan "all the news that's fit to print" has been a joke for a long time. Part of me wants to see the Knicks, Mets, Yankees or Rangers go on a tear just to watch NYT reporters tear their hair out... As an aside - I can't seem to find a place to bet the Northwestern under this season. Don't think it would be too unfair if the school paper was closed down over this because of budget cuts caused by the firing of coach Fitzgerald...
