Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
The sports world lost the all-time hits king Pete Rose aged 83. He was kept out of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown because he bet on baseball. Put me in the camp that MLB shouldn’t try to add him now that he’s passed. That was the one thing he wanted and they denied him while he was alive. They shouldn’t be benefiting from his name now that he’s dead… Some are speculating that Philadelphia's Nick Siriani or Jacksonville's Doug Peterson will be the first NFL coach fired. Can the speculation about Bill Belichick taking over be far behind? Let me just say that the Eagles would be a better choice. Philly's owner is a Boston guy and Belichick wants wins not a rebuild possibly featuring Mac Jones... Sad to hear about the passing of Dikembe Mutumbo. He was one of a kind... Fact checking the lies... The original meaning of "senator" was "elder" but our Senate House has taken that too literally... Let me just say that not every writer or artist is your cup of tea. That doesn't mean they're not great at their craft. For example I've started James Joyce's Ulysses several times and had to put it down each time. Same with Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes. Come to realize those writers just aren't for me... The Red Sox season is mercilessly finally done. Now let the baseless speculation from the team about signing a top free agent begin (every year it's like Lucy pulling the football away at this point)... Learn something new every day: there was no word for "frontier" in Latin... The triumvirate of death probably started with the passing of Kris Kristofferson aged 88 on Saturday. No doubt he was a giant but the fact that sticks with me is he was once a teacher at West Point and the role I remember him most for was as the bad guy in Mel Gibson’s Payback… Think if it came to a tale of the tape I'd pick Tom Brady over Baker Mayfield in a fight. There's no arguing that Brady is older but he's also taller with the bigger reach and there's no denying Tom's still in great shape...
