Have long found it amusing that America's vision of New York City changed from Escape from New York when Reagan took office in 1980 to Wall Street which was released this week in 1987. All it took was a change of attitude at the top... Wow - this was a shock! Former Titans TE Frank Wycheck has passed away aged 52. Just 52 - wow!... If blogs had been a thing in his day then I think Ulysses S Grant would have been one of the best. He was an excellent writer, clear, concise, and one of the most informed people of his day... Life advice from Tim Ferriss, “Can I eat whole grains or steel cut oats on his diet? NO!”… Magnum P.I. with Tom Selleck debuted this week in 1980. I may have been a pup but I watched this show from the start (for the first few seasons). I was even Thomas Magnum for Halloween once in my senior year (gave me the chance to wear a Hawaiian shirt to a Catholic school)... Business idea: a company called Karen's made up entirely of middle aged white women who will write or call managers of companies you are upset with... More diet advice from Tim Ferriss; while red wines are OK it is best to avoid Rieslings, White Zinfandels, and Champagnes. Beer in his slow-carb diet is right out. That may be asking too much… Order of the Star Spangled Banner was probably better known as the Know Nothing Party which was an anti-Irish and German immigrant party that was pretty successful in elections in the 1850’s. Anti-immigration policies are now sweeping Europe and think the US won’t be far behind. This time it’s not the Irish or Germans immigrants who are targeted but Muslims… It's that time of year again and I say that the best version of A Christmas Carol is the 1951 version with Alastair Sim. The second best is the 1999 version starring Patrick Stewart which was mostly true to the original book. Do have to admit the McNulty as nephew Fred does take me out of the story a bit... The most watched thing on YouTube by far is that little countdown clock in the bottom right telling people when it's OK to skip an ad. If you could somehow sponsor that it would be the most watched product placement on the Internet... Currently reading the book Grant by Ron Chernow and enjoying it. Chernow is a fine writer and particularly liked the phrase “the wings of his ambition having been thoroughly clipped by experience.” Have no point to make just really liked that bit of writing…
