Nippon Steele announces that it will be acquiring US Steele in a friendly transaction. Have to wonder if this ever would have been allowed during the age of Rising Sun but it's a new age and a new Japan... Reason on why Virginia should refuse to subsidize the new home in Virginia for the Capitals and Wizards. On the fence on this issue but I lean towards providing the subsidy of $1.2 billion on a reported $2 billion project… One argument for the Union in the Civil War that I never considered but makes sense is that when it comes to secession - that only applied to the original 13 colonies that made up the United States. The rest of the states, like Florida and the states west of Mississippi like Texas, had no such right as their territory was bought and paid for by the treasury or blood of all the states… Have to say that the Seinfeld episode “The Strike” may be one of the best half-hours of TV comedy in history. The Festivus episode gave us such gems as feats of strength and the Festivus pole. It originally aired 26-years ago last night… Strange how Big 10 colleges don't seem to be pulling for Michigan in the college football playoff game against Alabama the same way the SEC for the most part is rooting for the Crimson Tide. They may hate Nick Saban and company during the regular season but the SEC all seem to band together once the bowls arrive - just like conferences normally do. Except for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines I guess. Of course I could be wrong... Stan Lee on the birth of Spiderman. Great life lesson… The Red Sox top brass are saying they're "all-in" and "making a push" for top talent this off-season. You mean like Mookie Betts or Xander Bogaerts?... What's worse - politicians who promise to shut down existing power plants or forgive existing student loans? Or people who say, "It's only a cold sore?"... The Free Press with their 2023 book recommendations. Only have one of the books on their list though I do have plans to read the Sebastian Junger one… If the Capitals move to Virginia - should they be made to change their name? It wouldn't really fit anymore. Didn't the NBA learn anything from the NBA and the Utah Jazz?... As Dan Wetzel points out, with QB Dylan Raiola flipping to Nebraska the top 10 prospects in college football have now signed with 10 different universities. This is the way college ball is supposed to work…
