Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

These UFO's sure have a Wag the Dog feel to them don't they? Are they trying to distract us from the US blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines? The East Palestine, Ohio chemical fire? Maybe the Epstein client list about to be made public? So many scandals to choose from. If it was to get the Chinese spy balloon off the news - it worked... We're up on the one-year anniversary of the start of the War in Ukraine and there's no end in sight. In fact it seems like the Biden Administration is intent on escalating things by supplying more and more offensive weapons... In the aftermath of the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl you've seen some chatter about Patrick Mahomes perhaps being the "greatest QB of all-time." It's a little ridiculous as Mahomes has a long way to match what Tom Brady has accomplished but understandable in the giddiness of Mahomes’ second Super Bowl win (Brady has seven). Some older folks still insist that Joe Montana is the GOAT which is also fine since the title of GOAT is subjective and it's a fictional title to begin with. What pleases me is the fact that you NEVER hear Peyton Manning's name tossed around in these conversations... With all this inflation going on you have to wonder how long before Dollar Tree Stores have to change their name to Two Dollar Tree Stores. Only kind of joking about that... In general I'd be OK with replacing the income tax with a consumption tax but there would be unintended consequences to such a change. For instance - states like California and New York where marijuana has been legalized there's still a thriving illegal weed market because when you stack all the taxes on the legal product it's generally cheaper to buy from a street dealer than from a state sanctioned dispensary. A consumption tax on top of this would make the illegal weed market even more appealing... I'm a grown ass man but I still tear up when Katniss volunteers as tribute in The Hunger Games... You have to wonder what the East Palestine chemical fire's effect will be on our food supply. Ohio produces a lot of our nation's food whether it be corn, soy beans, or other crops. The ramifications from this disaster are just beginning... All these UFO's and the threat of nuclear war from what's going on in Ukraine makes one wonder if we're living through a real-life prelude to The Day the Earth Stood Still. In the original movie Klaatu sought out Professor Barnhardt, the greatest scientific mind of the day, who was supposed to be a characterization of Albert Einstein. Who would that be today?  Perhaps the greatest scientific mind today is David Deutsch but he's not close to being as well known as Einstein. I think Klaatu would probably seek out Elon Musk... Billy Joel could do a remake of the song We Didn't Start the Fire just from the events of Joe Biden's first two years in office.
