Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
First we lose Brooks Robinson and now it looks like Chris Snow has lost his battle against ALS. From his wife Kelsie. Chris was an inspiration for many no matter how this ends… As it stands, if the government were to shut down the Democrats will revert to their playbook of saying the Republicans are trying to starve grandma and poor children. Meanwhile the government will continue to pay the families of 57,000 Ukrainians who will be eating caviar... Serious question: would you straight up trade Damian Lillard (33 years old) for Jrue Holiday (33) and Deandre Aton (25)? That’s basically what just happened in the NBA… After SpaceX’s first rocket blew up because they were willing to risk “slosh” in the second stage, Elon Musk said, “ From now on we’re going to have eleven items on the risk list, never just ten.” Slosh was the eleventh thing on the risk list… Ryan Day's rant after barely beating Notre Dame is going to be remembered like Oklahoma State's coach Mike Gundy's "I'm a man. I'm 40" comment... And Canada wonders why the world thinks they’re a joke… In the olden days an "Illustrated Man" was simply a man with tattoos. Today that term could be applied to 70% of the customers of WalMart... One of my favorite stories of all-time remains of Jim Rice as Red Sox batting coach calling the official scorer to have the ruling for one of his players changed from an error to a hit. The scorer simply said OK and changed the ruling. A puzzled Rice asked why and was told that the scorer was present for Rice's entire Fenway career and he never once called to get one of his rulings changed from an error to a hit. As far as the scorer was concerned Rice had built up a tremendous amount of credibility. If Rice said something was a hit - he must be right... Business idea: reprint the Hardy Boys series but replace the boys with the guys from Spandau Ballet. You could also replace the parents with their business agent and make the series into graphic novels, I’d read those… If a writer’s strike ends in Hollywood - does it make a sound?…
