Filmmaker Tim Ballard (anti-child trafficking Sound of Freedom) is running for Mitt Romney's Senate seat in Utah. This means that whoever wins the primary will be a better senator for Utah ... You learn something new every day - former Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome had it written into his contract that he was "the man in charge." Not sure if this was a sharp proactive move by Newsome or a sharp reactive move to insulate himself from meddlesome former owner Art Modell... John le Carre once wrote, "No leader wants to go down in history as the ass who destroyed his country in an afternoon." Of course he wrote this long before Joe Biden became President... So the FDA now says Sudafed is ineffective against cough and colds. Not sure who not to trust in this instance - the FDA or the makers of Sudafed. No matter what - the FDA said for decades that Sudafed was an effective product... In his book Football Done Right Mike Lombardi makes the observation that as good as John Hannah was as an NFL guard ("perhaps the best offensive lineman in the game") he may have even been a better running back. Makes me think of an even more dangerous and stronger Mike Alstott. Never considered this before... Who would be surprised if Theo Epstein (resigned from the Red Sox) hires Chaim Blook (fired by the Red Sox) to work for him in his next job. Bloom worked for Epstein in Boston... About a third of the way through le Carre's The Russia House and really impressed that the author, who I always viewed as a bit of a peacenik, nailed the Cold War as having never ended despite Glasnost and the real dangers of the Russian bear... Who knew? The Wonderlic test the NFL uses is actually named after Elon E. F. Wonderlic who created the test back in the 1930's... Cool to note that Elon Musk's interest in AI is traced by some to his reading Robert Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress as a teen. In the book there's a penal colony on the moon that's run by a supercomputer called Mike which becomes self-aware. I read the book and just accepted the plot twist. Maybe that's one of the reasons Musk has been so great... As fierce a competitor John Hannah was an was even more fierce in his Christian beliefs. When I was at school at UMass-Amherst flyers were placed around campus that simply said "He is Coming." Nobody complained when they learned the "He" referred to John Hannah and not Jesus... Thought that can keep you up at night: if JFK was never assassinated do you think we would have returned to the moon by now?... So Bud Light hires Dylan Mulvaney as an influencer for their product and people immediately start protesting and refusing to buy the product. Meanwhile somehow people start drinking Miller Lite because they see golfer John Daley enjoying a Miller Lite brew. Funny how that works…
