With all the major changes in college sports such as NIL (name image and likeness) and the transfer portal - how long before we see another possible change that could be even more disruptive? I'm thinking of the NCAA having to get rid of the rules that limit college sports eligibility to just 4 (or 5 in some cases) years of eligibility to be on a roster. Someone getting a graduate degree or getting a second undergraduate degree is still a student and at between 22-25 years old they're probably in their athletic prime. Plus with NIL if being a "student-athlete" is now their job - couldn't it be argued that limiting eligibility to just 4-years is restraint of trade?... They changed the definition of "vaccine" surprised based upon results they didn't change the definition of "infected" as well..."Her body was blonde but her heart was black" - 50% of divorced white guys in America... You learn something new every day - an onion has five times the DNA as a human... Getting rid of a limited number of years of eligibility could really change the competitive landscape in college sports. Imagine a mid-power college basketball team like an Iowa made up of players who had been together for five or six years who may be very good but perhaps a notch below NBA talent. I'd like their chances against pretty much anyone - especially a team of highly touted prospects who are just "one and done" before leaving for the NBA draft like a Duke... Very cool... "Nobody wants Kamala!" - Donald Trump. That line still really cracks me up... Players staying longer at a school would allow team fans to get to know them better which would allow for more NIL opportunity which would ease the recruiting burden of always having to have a top-rated recruiting class for the coaches. It's a win-win-win all around. The big loser in basketball would be the NBA's G-League. Why play in the G-League if you can stay another year or two in school and make more money via NIL opportunities. This change seems to make too much sense not to happen... Who knew? Jimmy Paige played guitar on Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger theme song... As always if this column has made you smile or think - don't be afraid to hit the like button.
