The first thing you notice at the Derby is that everything is free. No charges for food or drinks! No wonder this turns into a drunk fest. All the hard drinks you want (I stuck to beer). Also no wonder why so many make this a yearly tradition to attend… Tip - if the person scanning your ticket says they have a favorite number they always like - bet that number as soon as you get in. The guy letting us in liked “7” and the 7 horse won the first three races… There were two game 7’s yesterday and I didn’t see either. There’s two more today and I hope to change that. Was rather busy yesterday… Know that the White House Correspondents dinner was known as the ”Nerd Prom” but for me the real nerd prom is the Kentucky Derby. Everyone is dressed up and many very colorfully. I’ll never take the fashions part of the day for granted again… I was on Sandman but I associated the name more with Neil Gaiman than Mariano Rivera’s walk in music. That put me in the minority... Recently Nick Saban met with Donald Trump to discuss possible government action on NIL. I hope Trump stays out of it. Or perhaps they were discussing the possibility of Saban getting a Presidential Medal of Honor and NIL was a smokescreen?… If you do attend the Derby - wear comfortable shoes. I ended up walking about 6.5 miles and if that was in patent leather dress shoes I’d be treating blisters today… Maybe the funniest moment of the day came in the men’s bathroom while standing at the urinal someone down the line shouted “Nice package” and the guy standing next to me replied “He must be talking to me.” Think I’m going to steal that line… Perhaps the best selling clothes item of the day was a Kentucky Derby 151 sweatshirt because it was much cooler than usual and many were under-dressed… Has to be said but girls with nice cleavage or nice legs were not shy in showing off their assets. Girls with neither tended to wear large showy hats…
