Much of what passes as knowledge is actually ancient wisdom that has been repackaged or put into modern terms or language. I am simply quoting the words I have learned even though they may have come from an earlier source. The most important thing to remember is that knowledge just doesn’t happen. Nobody is just born with knowledge.
“I studied for the love of learning, wanting, wanting to learn and understand.” - Louis L’ Amour
“The growth in knowledge depends entirely on disagreement.” - Karl Popper. Don’t just listen to or read people you agree with. Listen to and read others you don’t as well. That’s they only way you’ll improve and become wiser.
“Tell me what you know. Tell me what you don’t know. Only then can can you tell me what you think. Always keep these things separate.” - Colin Powell. Great life advice to adopt and implement into your own life.
“An abundance of knowledge does not teach men to be wise.” - Heraclitus. Knowing things does not make you wise. Knowing a tomato is a fruit is knowledge - not putting tomatoes in fruit salad is wise.
“Information that is not retrieved (even unconsciously) from memory may as well not exist.” - Daniel Kahneman. Not only is it important to know something but you should remember those facts too for them to have any impact on your life.
“There is no shame is in not knowing things! The only shame is in pretending we know everything.” - Richard Feynman. There’s a reason why the cliche “no one likes a know-it-all” exists.
“Education, as I have said, takes many forms and there are many ways to acknowledge and awareness.” - Louis L’ Amour. Learning is not a one-size fits all choice.
“The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.” - Confucius. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. All the smartest people in history have learned from others.
“Knowledge has consequences, not always intended, not always comfortable, not always welcome.” - Richard Rhodes. Knowing the truth has consequences. It’s important to know and understand what they are.
“Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.” - Bruce Lee. Learning is important but using that knowledge to do the right thing is even more important,
No one ever said it was an easy path but it’s one you need to follow - though each in their own way.
