Much of what passes as knowledge is actually ancient wisdom that has been repackaged or put into modern terms or language. I am simply quoting the words I have learned even though they may have come from an earlier source. The most important thing to remember is that knowledge just doesn’t happen. Nobody is just born with knowledge.
“Somewhere along the line I had fallen in love with learning, and it became a lifelong romance.” - Louis L’ Amour. Learning is something you must do every day. It must be a habit.
“The art of knowing is knowing what to ignore.” - Rumi. You must know what is important and what is a priority.
“Every group of people who think for a living is going to be sad. Ignorance is bliss. So what’s the opposite?” - Chris Rock. Reminder that learning the truth often means losing your naivety or discovering how little you actually know. Nobody said it would be easy.
“One of the signs of intelligence is to be able to accept the facts without being offended.” - Richard Feynman. The flip side is that if the truth offends you that’s a sign you probably aren’t as smart as you think.
“Education is the art of making man ethical.” - Hegel. Knowing the difference between right and wrong is the root of all knowledge.
“A rationalist is simply someone for whom it is more important to learn than to be right.” - Karl Popper. If you’d rather be right - simply said - you’re not very smart.
“I think a life lived properly is just learn, learn, learn all the time.” - Charlie Munger. A billionaire who lived almost to 100 - you should listen and emulate Charlie.
“I think the greatest gift anyone can give to another is the desire to know, to understand. Life is not simply for watching spectator sports, or for taking part in them. It’s not simply living from one working day to the next. Life is for delving, discovering, learning.” - Louis L’ Amour.
“A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.” - Henry James. Make sure you’re not wasting your time. Memento mori.
“Awareness of ignorance is the beginning of wisdom.”- Socrates. The wise man knows how little he knows.
No one ever said it was an easy path but it’s one you need to follow - though each in their own way.
