Much of what passes as knowledge is actually ancient wisdom that has been repackaged or put into modern terms or language. I am simply quoting the words I have learned even though they may have come from an earlier source. The most important thing to remember is that knowledge just doesn’t happen. Nobody is just born with knowledge.
“Study hard what interests you the most, in the most undisciplined, irreverent, and original manner possible.” - Richard Feynman. Learn what interest you and you can’t go wrong.
“Turtles that outrun the hares are learning machines.” - Charlie Munger. All successful people make learning a habit.
“Getting wiser is a combination of humility and diligent curiosity. Without the first, the second is useless.” - Shane Parrish. You really should make both your goals
“Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful.” - Samuel Johnson. Again you really should make both things your goals.
“Instead of buying your kids all the things you never had, you should teach them all the things you were never taught. Material wears out but knowledge stays.” - Bruce Lee. Learning something does not just just benefit you. Knowledge can be useless unless it can be shared.
“Study without thinking and you are blind; think without studying and you are in danger.” - Confucius. Make sure you study to understand otherwise you are wasting valuable time.
“Acquiring an education, of which school is only one, and the present approach is, I believe the wrong one.” - Louis L’ Amour. Relying only on schools to teach you without practical experience or relying on the teachings of others instead of your own thoughts and reading has always been a mistake.
“An alleged scientific discovery has no merit unless it can be explained to a barmaid.” - Ernest Rutherford. Knowing something is of no use if you can’t explain what you know. Only by being able to do so to the degree you can do it in the simplest terms will you truly understand the idea.
“Keep learning, that’s the secret.” - Charlie Munger. He stressed this point for a reason.
“Apply specific knowledge with leverage and eventually, you will get what you deserve.” - Naval Ravikant. The only way to gain specific knowledge is to first study and then to do.
No one ever said it was an easy path but it’s one you need to follow - though each in their own way.
Good stack. Thank you for sharing.
