Much of what passes as knowledge is actually ancient wisdom that has been repackaged or put into modern terms or language. I am simply quoting the words I have learned even though they may have come from an earlier source. The most important thing to remember is that knowledge just doesn’t happen. Nobody is just born with knowledge.
“The fact is, the public has an insatiable knowledge to know everything but what is worth knowing.” - Oscar Wilde. There’s no excuse for not being a learning machine.
“What we know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean.” - Isaac Newton. There’s never a thing as too much knowledge.
“The more hard lessons you can learn vicariously rather than through your own hard experiences, the better.” - Charlie Munger. Read biographies and autobiographies. Find out what other people who went before you learned. Don’t reinvent the wheel.
“Leisure without study - a tomb for the living person.” - Seneca. Always study with a purpose and always be learning.
“A great way to understand yourself is to seriously reflect on what you find irritating in others.” - Kevin Kelly. Observe and learn.
“There is no such thing as a quantum leap. There is only dogged persistence - and in the end you make it look like a quantum leap.” - James Dyson. You don’t just wake up one day an educated person but if you keep at it suddenly you could find yourself being considered an expert by others.
“The mind is everything; what you think you become.” - Socrates
“I learn from yesterday, I dream about tomorrow, but I try to make today my masterpiece.” - Bill Walton. Try to go to bed 1% smarter than when you wake up but also be happy and live in the present.
“Study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing it takes in.” - Leonardo da Vinci. Always be learning with a purpose. Even if you don’t know why you’re studying something do it wholeheartedly so you get something out of it.
“Education is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think.” - Albert Einstein. Know the difference!
No one ever said it was an easy path but it’s one you need to follow - though each in their own way.
