Friday Flotsam and Jetsam
Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
ESPN signed a 10-year $2 billion deal with Penn Entertainment in 2023 but that deal has been called off and the ESPN Bet product will cease next month. If only someone had said that platform would never work - oh wait!... With the election of Zohran Mamdani as the new mayor the campaign promises of free buses and government owned grocery stores will go unfulfilled because there simply isn’t the money. Look for Mamdani to spin this as somehow “Trump’s fault.” The lower rent prices may come true but not by building more housing but by forcing those who already live in NYC to flee thus creating a glut on the market and driving prices down… A full 75% of Tesla shareholders approved a pay package that could make Elon Musk the first trillionaire in history if he hits targets… President Trump argues that Senate Majority Leader John Thune should use the “nuclear option” to end the filibuster and get the government open again. I’d argue that you should be careful what you ask for and maybe Trump should acquaint himself with the Chesterton’s Fence theory… In the old days if someone was getting hysterical a person would slap them to get them back to reality but if you tried to do that today you’d probably get arrested - just saying... New York, New York… And just like that ESPN announced an agreement to make DraftKings their new betting partner. This is like someone announcing they’re getting remarried before the ink is even dry on their divorce papers… No truth to the rumor that New York is thinking of changing their motto from “I Love NY” to “Go Woke Go Broke”... You cannot unhear this now when you hear the song... People may be aware that Ryen Russillo may have moved his podcast to Barstool Sports but since that now makes him technically co-workers with Jon Gruden - I wonder if Gruden will be an upcoming guest on the pod... I’m miss Marcus Smart... Notre Dame signed a home and home agreement with Auburn. A 2027 game will be played in South Bend and a 2028 game played at Auburn…
