Serious question - if a teacher in Florida is found to have spoken with a student in grades K-3 about sex would that teacher then become a registered sex offender? If not - they should. That "teacher" should not be able to pass a CORI check in any State for the rest of their lives... Usually after an actor wins a Best Actor award they get a ton of offers but guessing that may not be true in Will Smith's case. But the career that may have taken the biggest hit on Sunday was whoever was the writer of that lame GI Jane joke... First Disney came for Gina Carano because of her politics but I said nothing because I was not a Star Wars fan... As an aside, many Americans have a pre-tax FSA (flexible spending account) as part of their health insurance. Many of these accounts have a "use it or lose it" date on which the funds must be spent or lost. It would be cool if these unused dollars could be donated to the Red Cross instead of going to stock up on items that wouldn't have been purchased otherwise... Disney trying to insert gay and trans messaging into children's programming may have begun when Disney bought Warner Brothers - a move supported in large part so that Tim Curry's Dr. Frank-N-Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show could become a Disney "princess"... I've partly given up on the dream of flying cars in my lifetime but that dream has been replaced with the idea of a self-driving RV. That would be my dream way to travel. No more wasted time at the airport or rescheduled flights. Drive for hours as you sleep. What could be better?... Think some heavy metal band should do a cover of Carol King's So Far Away similar to how Disturbed did a cover of The Sound of Silence... There are so many major medical breakthroughs on the horizon in things like gene therapy and stem cells but I have to wonder if the advent of some these advances have been delayed by Elizabeth Holmes and her vast fraud perpetuated at Theranos. That may be a crime she goes unpunished for... Many people have bad memories of one of their favorite athletes finishing their careers in inglorious circumstances such as Joe Namath with the Los Angeles Rams or Emmitt Smith with the Arizona Cardinals. For me it was Dwight Evans finishing his career with the Baltimore Orioles... Today is April 1st - April Fools Day. Not sure if it is because I've grown older and wiser to how silly this day is (and don't get me wrong I'm often very in favor of silly) - or perhaps the advent of the Internet has dampened the societal impact of April's fools. Back in the day you could say something outrageous and if the person you told bought it you'd say "April's Fools!" But now you say something outrageous - the person checks it on Google and then proceeds to look at you like you're a moron who's wasting their time (which is exactly what you are). Anyway not sad to see April's Fools recede into history... As always if this column has made you smile or think - don't be afraid to hit the like button.
