Christmas Eve Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous day before Christmas thoughts and observations.

First off - Merry Christmas to one and all (except Roger Goodell)... 100-years from now will people look back at our COVID policies the way people today look back at Prohibition? Like what were they thinking?... Really kind of surprised that Elizabeth Warren and Corey Booker haven't even tried blaming them coming down with COVID on Ted Cruz not wearing a mask... The word "panned" comes from the French word for "breakdowns." So in essence when a movie is panned by critics it is usually because it "breaks down" and doesn't work... Wonder if as more Senators and Congressmen get and recover from COVID if natural immunity becomes a bigger and bigger deal. To be recognized again as a real thing would be a good start... Amazon has agreed to remove any reviews less than 5 stars in China for Xi Jinping's new book. In case you were wondering if you could trust Amazon's rating system for anything they sell... Unfixed Cats would be a good name for a band of single guys... Question has to be asked - is believing in the efficacy of booster shots the adult equivalent of believing in Santa Claus? I mean you believed in Santa Claus because adults you trusted told you it was true when they knew better. How is this different?... Something I learned this week - West Virginia has a higher literacy rate  (86%) than New York (78%) or California (77%). As Doug mentioned on Twitter - this could be due to the work of Dolly Parton and her efforts to give away hundreds of thousands of books to kids... The CDC no longer supports PCR testing for COVID as of January 1st. It has been reported that PCR tests give false positives about 5% of the time. Think of the number of people who have had to quarantine because of an incorrect test result... Interesting theory - in some circles it is being speculated that Texas A&M did not really cancel their appearance in the Gator Bowl because of COVID but because they were afraid their team would be beaten by Wake Forrest. Now I'm not putting any stock in that theory but did want to mention how far Wake Forrest football has come that such a theory could even be raised... What if the Rapture happened and we are all still here because we're all highly flawed, awful filthy animals?... Joe Rogan said that “masks are like the Democrats’ MAGA hats” and now I can’t stop thinking that he’s right… The WHO now says that boosters may prolong the pandemic. It will be amusing to see all the flip-flopping from the people who said “the WHO is in the pocket of China and has been lying to us all along” and the “trust the science” folks who considered Anthony Fauci and the WHO to be “science”… As always if this column has made you smile or think - don't be afraid to hit the like button.
